Apple Mail: keep sent, drafts and deleted mail on the server
Point Apple Mail at your server folders, so the mail you send, draft and delete on your Mac shows up the same way in webmail and on your phone.
Change your mailbox behaviors
- Open Mail and choose Mail, then Settings (called Preferences on older Macs).
- Click Accounts, select your iHwy account, then click Mailbox Behaviors.
- Set each mailbox to the matching server folder in the table below, not an “On My Mac” folder.
- Close the settings window. Do the same on every Mac where you use this account.
Which folder to choose
| In Mailbox Behaviors | Choose this server folder |
|---|---|
| Drafts Mailbox | Drafts |
| Sent Mailbox | Sent Items |
| Junk Mailbox | Junk E-Mail |
| Trash Mailbox | Deleted Items |
Also set Erase junk messages and Erase deleted messages to something other than Never, so old mail doesn’t fill up your mailbox.
Why it matters
Mail stored “On My Mac” stays on that Mac only. Server folders are the same everywhere, so you won’t end up with two Sent or Junk folders in the sidebar, and your sent mail is backed up on the server.
